STUDENTS were celebrating the start of their adventure to university.
Coleg Llandrillo students and their families and friends have recently attended an awards rite at the Rhyl campus to rejoice in the students receiving their ‘passports to university.’
Nearly 40 students were supplied with their qualifications to look at college after effectively completing their Access to Higher Education (HE) programs at the university’s campus.
The ceremony changed into hosted using Clare Martin, Access to HE co-ordinator, and the special guest became Martin Evans, program place supervisor for A-tiers at the Rhyl Sixth and the college’s Rhos-on-Sea campus.
The 2018/2019 educational 12 months at the university have been, in particular, a hot one, with the majority of successful college students now acquiring route offers from their first choice university.
The Access to Higher Education program has been supplied via Coleg Llandrillo for almost 30 years.
It is a flexible program designed for adults with few, if any, college qualifications, but wish to put together for college-degree observation.
Two out of the three predominant awards were offered to Niamh Kemp from Rhyl (best-prolonged essay) and Joann Evans from Rhyl (most advanced scholar), earlier than the coveted title student of the year was bestowed upon Kirsty Jones from Greenfield.
A former project employee for young homeless humans, Kirsty had continually wanted to pursue a profession in in-person nursing, so she signed up for the Access to HE path.
Mum-of-two Kirsty said on the rite: “I am pleased to get hold of this award.
“The support and encouragement I have acquired from all my tutors have been tremendous.
“After just one year of examination, I will now examine for a degree in person nursing at Bangor University.
“I am satisfied that this direction is the nice one available for the ones who’ve had a gap in their training and want to head directly to college.”
Clare Martin stated: “The Access to Higher Education program is a dynamic course to college for mature students seeking out an exchange practice in their career, or who might not have the conventional entry qualifications to look at for a diploma. “Doing an Access to HE course is tough but a life-changing experience.
“I am so happy with all our students at Rhyl who have come back into training as adults and are now heading to university to pursue new career paths.”
