Burton-upon-Trent Kerry Food manufacturing facility closure axes 900 jobs
The closure of a meals manufacturing unit and the loss of 900 jobs will be a "calamity" for a city, a union said.
Union representatives said Kerry Foods in Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire, become the town's largest agency.
It introduced the closure on Monday, the result, in keeping with Unite the Union, losing a contract to supply prepared-made meals to Tesco.
Kerry Foods stated its priority was to "aid all employees affected" and meet with Unite on Friday.
