Cooper High School named its next band director Thursday, searching out of doors of the district for a replacement for the now-departed Clay Johnson.
Matthew Raines, Texas City ISD, will lead the marching band, concert band, and smaller ensembles heading into a University Interscholastic League contest year for the 5A high school.
Raines, director of bands in Texas City, because in 2015, he studied music at Hardin-Simmons University before moving to the College of Biblical Studies in Houston, where he acquired his bachelor of technological know-how diploma, Abilene ISD said in a news launch.
The district said he is pursuing his grasp in song education at Southeast Oklahoma University with the cause of finishing his diploma in 2020.
Before joining Texas City ISD, he became director of bands at Santa Fe ISD and was overall performance art director for Veritas Christian Academy in Bellaire.
Raines took over for Johnson, who became named assistant predominant at Bowie Elementary earlier this month. Johnson had been Cooper High band director considering that 2005.
